Autumn Pruning

Autumn is a very busy time of the year for gardeners. As the weather becomes colder and wetter and most plants in the garden will begin to lose their leaves and gradually become dormant; at this stage you can begin pruning. Pruning is carried out for a number of reasons: to manage the size of trees and shrubs, to remove old or diseased branches and to encourage better growth and flowering next year. One important thing to remember is not to prune shrubs which flower on this year's growth, these shrubs should be pruned immediately after flowering.
